The Garments of Grace Ministry at Rose Hill UMC is beginning its second decade of service.
What began as a simple, spontaneous idea: how to use the abundance of clothing, shoes, and jackets left over from our annual church garage sale. This program has grown into a meaningful and consistent monthly ministry of giving.
Our team collects donations of seasonal adult clothing from church members, the community, and other charitable partners. These items are carefully sorted and organized to be distributed to those in need. Monetary donations are used to purchase essential items such as socks and men’s and women’s underwear.
We are also blessed to partner with St. John’s Episcopal Church of Wichita, who graciously allows us to use their parking lot at 3rd and Topeka for our distribution.
This ministry is simple at its core: we seek to meet people where they are and as they are. We offer help without judgment, and there are no applications or qualifying questions to receive assistance.
Everyone who comes to our table is welcomed with dignity and care. We strive to understand how best to serve each person by not only providing clothing but also by truly seeing, hearing, and caring for them with open hearts and willing hands.
Our prayer is that one day our services will no longer be needed. As John Lennon once said, “You may say I’m a dreamer, but I not the only one.”
Until that day comes, we will continue, by God’s grace, to gather every third Saturday at 9:00 AM at the church to load, sort, and prepare for our journey into Wichita. All are welcome to help.
