Rev. John
V Martin was appointed as pastor of the Rose Hill United
Methodis Church on July 1, 2014. Prior to being
appointed to the Rose Hill church, he served churches in
Douglass, Salina, Sterling, Rock, Wichita,
and Winfield--all in Kansas.
Rev.
Martin's primary focus in the church is the people. He
says: "I enjoy the people of the church. Their lives
and their ministry are important since the church is the
people. The people are the church and God's movement
is primarily in and through people, including each and every
one of us."
Rev. Martin grew up in Winfield, KS where he graduated from
Winfield High School. He received a Bachelor of Arts
degree from Southwestern College in Winfield, a Master of
Divinity from Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, KY and
a Master of Education from Wichita State University in
Wichita, KS. He was ordained an Elder in the Kansas
West Annual Conference (now the Great Plains Annual
Conference) of the United Methodist Church in 1980.
Rev. Martin's wife, Sharon Martin, teaches Journalism at
Wichita East High School in Wichita, KS. His daughter,
Anne, lives in Atlanta, GA where she teaches 3rd grade and
is working on a Ph.D at Gerogia State University in Atlanta,
GA. His son, Alex, lives in Wichita and currently
attends Butler Community College in ElDorado, KS.
Reading and trying to play golf are two things Rev. Martin
enjoys in addition to being a pastor in the local church.
He is the Chairperson of the Steering Committee for Kansas
Interfaith Power and Light, an affiliate of the national
Interfaith Power and Light group, which seeks to care for
our creation focusing on energy conservation, energy
efficacy, and renewable energy.
